Lusa - Business News - Macau: Government cloud systems repel over four million monthly cyberattacks

Macau, China, April 20, 2026 (Lusa) – Macau’s government cloud computing centre repels an average of more than four million cyberattacks every month, according to official data.

In response to questions from MP Vong Hou Piu regarding the current use of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve the efficiency of public administration, the Civil Service and Administration Bureau (SAFP) confirmed that, despite the high volume of cyberattacks recorded throughout 2025, no security incidents have occurred to date.

Authorities in the semi-autonomous Chinese city attributed this defensive record to a "dedicated monitoring team" and a "rigorous security management regime" designed to protect electronic infrastructure and sensitive data.

The Macau government has accelerated AI integration into internal operations. SAFP has begun testing a large-scale platform to streamline administrative tasks such as data analysis, document processing, and drafting of meeting minutes. The SAFP stressed that the AI platform is hosted in the Government Cloud Computing Centre and remains for internal use only, to mitigate risks associated with this new technology.

"SAFP will continue to monitor the risks of cyberattacks, responding promptly and strengthening intrusion detection and blocking capabilities," the services said, noting that cybersecurity remains a pillar of the executive's e-governance strategy.

Territorial authorities said that the modernisation drive will transform the civil service. Future recruitment processes may include AI proficiency as a selection criterion.

"Under the current regime, selection panels have the discretion to assess AI technology knowledge in tests and interviews, ensuring that new recruits are prepared for the digital transition," it said. The government maintains that technological updates remain essential to improve service quality and work efficiency across all public departments.
