NNA - Minister of Information, Dr. Paul Morcos sends letter to UN Special Rapporteur, via Foreign Ministry, over targeting of journalists

NNA - Since the outbreak of war on March 2, 2026, Minister of Information, Dr. Paul Morcos, has been monitoring all Israeli attacks on the media sector, as part of ongoing efforts to protect journalists and pursue violations.

Minister Morcos worked on creating a comprehensive mechanism that includes gathering data and preparing a detailed list of names and incidents that led to the martyrdom of several journalists and the injury of others. This list was submitted to Lebanon’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants to be included in the complaint file and the legal actions it is undertaking.

As a continuation of these efforts and follow-up on previous correspondence, the Minister of Information today, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants, sent two letters to Dr. Morris Tidball-Binz, the UN Special Rapporteur on extrajudicial, summary or arbitrary executions, and to Ambassador Caroline Ziadeh, Permanent Representative and Head of Lebanon’s Mission to the United Nations in Geneva, to protest before the Council and request the necessary measures.

The two letters included a detailed account of Israeli attacks targeting the media sector, which constitute violations of the Geneva Conventions. They also noted that the number of journalists martyred since the beginning of the Israeli attacks in 2023 to date has reached 28, in addition to several others injured.

The letters called for international action and for ensuring the necessary protection for journalists while carrying out their professional duties.
