Lusa - Business News - Angola: €1.3B from diamond exports in 2025

Luanda, April 14, 2026 (Lusa) - The secretary of state for mineral resources announced on Tuesday that Angola exported 17 million carats of diamonds in 2025, generating a gross value of $1.6 billion (€1.3 billion).

Opening a meeting to review the sector's 2025 performance and discuss the outlook for 2026, Jânio Correa Víctor said that the United Arab Emirates and Belgium remained the primary destinations for Angola's diamond exports, accounting for 78.6% and 19.9%, respectively.

He said that the volume of diamonds traded in 2025 increased by around 70% compared to 2024, while the gross value grew by approximately 6.7%.

In 2025, diamond production reached 15.19 million carats, an increase of 8% compared to 2024, exceeding the initial target set in the 2023–2027 National Development Plan, which stood at 15.13 million carats, and the revised target of 14.8 million carats.

Additionally, he said that the domestic diamond sector remained robust and played a pivotal role in the economy.

“These results reflect the sector’s production capacity and its competitiveness in the main international markets, which are characterised by price pressure, with increased volume having been the strategy to offset falling prices in the global market,” he said.

Looking ahead, he anticipated a gradual move towards market stabilisation, which, despite lingering external challenges, was showing signs of rebalancing, due to greater supply discipline and more selective demand.

He further highlighted that the international diamond market remained challenging and in flux, characterised by subdued global demand, growing competition from synthetic diamonds, and structural adjustments across the value chain.

"Despite this situation, Angola has shown encouraging performance, establishing itself as a significant, resilient and increasingly credible player on the global stage," he said.

Regarding the sector’s social role, he said that the commitment to promoting initiatives that help reduce social inequalities and improve the well-being of the population, in mining areas and in other regions of Angola.
