Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Repsol Guide honours 120 restaurants, two get top marks

Evora, Portugal, April 14, 2026 (Lusa) - The Repsol Guide (travel and dining guide) has honoured 120 restaurants in Portugal, awarding ‘Suns’ to 41 establishments, with two of them – both in the Algarve – receiving the highest accolade, the organisation announced at a ceremony held in Evora.

The guide celebrated Portugal's dining for the second consecutive year after a nine-year break. The organisation announced the distinctions during a gala at the Garcia de Resende Theatre in Evora on Monday evening.

Vila Joya in Albufeira, led by chef Dieter Koschina, and João Oliveira’s Vista in Portimão earned three Suns. This brings the total number of restaurants with the guide's top rating in Portugal to six.

These establishments join previous winners: José Avillez’s Belcanto in Lisbon, Benoît Sinthon’s Il Gallo D'Oro in Funchal, chef Hans Neuner’s Ocean in Porches, and Ricardo Costa’s The Yeatman in Vila Nova de Gaia.

Nine restaurants received two Suns, mostly in the Lisbon and Porto areas. New additions include Palatial in Braga and Desarma in Funchal.

Thirty restaurants across the country received one Sun, including Foco in Leiria, O Calheta in the Azores, G Pousada in Bragança, Malhadinha Nova in Beja, and Latitude and Bioma in Pico island.

Another 79 establishments received the "Repsol Guide Restaurant" seal, which replaces the former Recommended category.

The guide also awarded four Sustainable Suns for environmental awareness. These went to Vista and Ciclo in Lisbon, Mesa de Lemos in Viseu, and Pão & Pizza in Alandroal.

The Repsol Guide now includes 298 restaurants in Portugal, 102 of which hold Suns.

The guide aims to promote Portugal's gastronomy and tourism. Local experts use a classification system focusing "on the culture, tradition and the country's gastronomic and tourist potential."

Published in Portugal from 1989 to 2016, when the organisation paused for "deep reflection to adapt to the tourism and gastronomic demands of new travellers and diners".

The Repsol Guide returned to the country nine years later, with the 2025 edition in Santarem, to serve as "a meeting point for the Portuguese gastronomic community and interact with it to grow".
