Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Lisbon Metro closed for 24-hour strike on Thursday

Lisbon, April 9, 2026 (Lusa) - The Metro in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon, is closed on Thursday due to a 24-hour strike by staff, as confirmed by Lusa at Colégio Militar/Luz station; the company’s website also states that all lines are closed.

At that station, at 6.03 a.m., all access gates were closed with posters bearing the following message: “Due to a strike, the metro is closed. We apologise for the inconvenience.”

According to a trade union source, the strike is justified by the failure to comply with agreements signed in 2019, particularly regarding training and work organisation, and they deny that pay rises are at issue.

Metropolitano workers held a meeting on Wednesday evening in plenary
