Luanda, April 8, 2026 (Lusa) - Angola’s inflation rate fell to 12.42% in March, a decrease of 0.93 percentage points from February, marking a downward trend that has lasted for 21 consecutive months, according to data from Statistics Angola (INE).
The National Consumer Price Index (IPCN) peaked in July 2024, reaching 31.09%, falling steadily to the current 12.42%, the lowest figure since July 2023.
The transport sector recorded the highest year-on-year rate in March, at 16.59%, down from 18.66% in February, followed by housing, water, electricity and fuel, at 15.49%, and health and education, at 13.40%.
The food and non-alcoholic beverages category remains the main driver of inflation, accounting for 62.26% of the change in the overall index, with a contribution of 7.73 percentage points, with the change falling from 13.55% in February to 12.72% in March.
At the provincial level, Cabinda recorded the highest price variation, at 19.56%, followed by Malanje, at 14.62%, and Lunda Sul, at 14.58%.
At the other end of the scale, Cunene recorded the lowest variation in the country, at 9.87%, followed by Huambo, at 9.93%, and Namibe, at 10.55%.
The fall in Angolan inflation is in line with central bank projections, which estimate an inflation rate of 13.5% for 2026.
