ANA-MPA - New tax reductions go into effect Monday, reflected on property tax bills

A new cycle of tax reductions, mainly benefiting families who own their homes, went into effect on Monday (March 16) following the posting of property tax (ENFIA) bills and the opening date for the filing of annual tax for 2025 income.

The new tax reductions follow up on a reduction in withholdings of monthly wage checks for wage earners and pensioners that went into effect on January 1, 2026. Also on the same day, favorable measures were introduced for young employees and families with children.

The tax relief that went into effect on Monday includes a 50% drop in ENFIA for main homes in thousands of small communities across Greece except Attica that number up to 1,500 permanent residents (1,700 residents in northern Greece), and a downward revision for proof of living expenses (tekmiria diaviosis) for nearly half a million tax payers. The ENFIA above will drop to zero as of 2027. According to government economists, an estimated 13,000 communities nationally will benefit (nearly 94% of Greece's communities).

Due to the changes, part of the tax reform announced by the premier in 2025's Thessaloniki International Fair policy speech, all tax rates for incomes ranging between 10,000 euros and 40,000 euros (the middle class, that is) are reduced by two percentage points across the board. A further two-percentage reduction is also foreseen for every dependent minor, while families with a lot of children will have zero taxes for the first 20,000 euros they earn.

Young employees also have comparable gains, as those up to 25 years of age no longer pay taxes for incomes up to 20,000 euros annually, while those between 26 and 30 are taxed with a very low introductory rate (9%).
