Italy was the target of 9.6% of global cybercrime incidents in 2025, when cases here increased by 42% compared to 2024, Italian Information Security Association Clusit said in its 2026 Report, which was released on Wednesday.
It said 28% of the incidents regarded the government, military, law enforcement sectors, an increase of 290% in absolute terms compared to 2024.
It said the biggest increase regarded activism-linked cyber-attacks, which rose by 145% compared to 2024, citing "geopolitical events related to ongoing conflicts".
The report added that "AI has certainly acted as a risk multiplier" for cyber crime.
