TIRANA, Feb 20 /ATA/ Minister of Economy and Innovation, Delina Ibrahimaj, held a meeting today with stakeholders on the Cashless Albania initiative.
During the discussion, the acceleration of electronic payments was reaffirmed as a priority to enhance economic formalization and transparency.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on enforcing the requirement for at least one electronic payment method in the tourism and transport sectors. Minister Delina Ibrahimaj clarified that this obligation is not limited to POS terminals, but also includes lower-cost alternatives such as softPOS and QR code solutions for businesses.
The discussions also addressed the progress made in reducing interbank costs (interchange fees). In a post on social media, Minister Delina Ibrahimaj emphasized: “Cashless Albania represents a concrete step toward building a more efficient and trustworthy economy.”
The Cashless Albania initiative aims to facilitate financial services, enhance security, and combat the informal economy.
