TIRANA, Feb 17 /ATA/ - The Durrës Archaeological Museum - one of Albania’s most important cultural institutions - is approaching the final stage of restoration and is expected to reopen soon, Tourism and Culture Minister Blendi Gonxhja said on Monday.
“Work is progressing daily, bringing us closer to reopening the museum to the public,” Gonxhja said.
The museum, along with the city’s Ethnographic Museum, has been undergoing extensive restoration and conservation, financed by the European Union and implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Services in partnership with Albania’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
Once reopened, the Archaeological Museum will rejoin the network of key cultural sites in the coastal city, offering visitors a glimpse of Albania’s rich historical and archaeological heritage.
The museum suffered significant damage during the 2019 earthquake that affected large parts of Albania, prompting the need for comprehensive restoration efforts.
The museum houses more than 3,000 historical artifacts and is a key cultural attraction in Durrës.
