TIRANA, Feb 15 /ATA/ The Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Elisa Spiropali, visited the Albanology Department at Ludwig-Maximilian University in Munich, reaffirming the strong ties between Albania and Europe through education and diplomacy.
Spiropali was welcomed by LMU’s Vice President for Humanities, Prof. Dr. Carola Metzner-Nebelsick, and the department head, Prof. Dr. Enkeleida Kapia, along with faculty members, professors, students, and alumni. The discussion revolved around the department’s historical, academic, and political significance since its establishment nearly 60 years ago.
The department was established under the stewardship of Martin Camaj, with the support of the Bavarian state for decades, and today continues to receive backing from Prime Minister Rama and the Albanian government.
Spiropali highlighted that “the department has played a key role in Albania’s historical ties with Europe, and in the political and cultural spheres. Its significant research work, in the past and present, has made Albanology in Munich a lasting bridge for knowledge, dialogue, and cooperation.”
“This department has long been and continues to be a point of reference for the study of Albanian language, history, and identity in Europe, demonstrating that our European path has been built not only through politics but also on solid identity, academic, and cultural foundations,” Spiropali said.
