NNA - A joint Lebanese–Syrian meeting held at the Masnaa border customs center resulted in the adoption of a temporary, seven-day transitional mechanism to regulate truck movement between the two countries, following direct instructions from Public Works and Transport Minister Fayez Rasamny to address recent disruptions and ensure smoother land transport flows.
The Lebanese delegation, headed by Director General of Land and Maritime Transport Dr. Ahmad Tamer, included representatives from General Security, Customs, the Ministry of Agriculture, and land transport unions. The Syrian side was led by Ahmad Al-Khatib, Director of the Jdeidet Yabous crossing, with relevant authorities in attendance.
Both sides agreed to designate a unified unloading and reloading point during the trial period, based on reciprocity, while exempting tanker shipments, hazardous materials, bulk cement, raw cement materials, meat, and pharmaceuticals. A one-time settlement was also approved for stranded trucks.
The mechanism is temporary and does not amend the existing bilateral agreement.
