A total of 17 bounced cheques, worth €47,091, were recorded in the first month of 2026, according to data published on Wednesday by the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) regarding entries in the preliminary list of the Central Information Registry (CIR) for issuers of bounced cheques.
For the whole of 2025, 213 bounced cheques with a total value of €630,249 were entered in the CIR’s preliminary list, while in January 2025 a total of 16 cheques worth €42,062 were recorded.
According to the CBC data, the total number of individuals and legal entities entered in January 2026 in the CIR’s preliminary list stood at 13, of whom 9 were legal entities and 4 were natural persons.
Moreover, the CBC said that the total number of persons entered in the CIR in January 2026 stood at 10, of whom 5 concerned legal entities and 5 were natural persons controlling legal entities. No natural person was entered.
It is noted that in January 2025, a total of 6 persons were entered in the CIR, of whom 2 were legal entities, 2 were natural persons controlling legal entities, and 2 were natural persons.
