Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Number of trips abroad by residents up 21.5% in 2023 to record 3.2M

Lisbon,April.26,2024(Lusa)- The number of trips abroad made by residents of Portugal was up 21.5% last year, to 3.2 million, an all-time high in a year in which all trips by residents, including within the country, totalled 23.7 million, up 4.6% on 2002, the National Statistics Institute (INE) announced on Friday.
According to data from the INE on tourism demand from residents in Portugal, the main destination countries for trips abroad remained Spain (41.6% of the total, up 3.2 percentage points), France (10.1%, down 0.7 of a point) and Italy (6.9%, up 0.2 of a point).
At the same time, in 2023, domestic trips increased in number by 2.4%.
Free private accommodation increasing in importance and remaining the main means of accommodation used, at 61.3%, up 0.2 of a point from the previous year.
