Lusa - Business News - Portugal Fidelidade suspends Luz Saúde IPO due to 'market instability'

Lisbon,April.23,2024(Lusa)- One of Portugal's leading insurance companies, Fidelidade, has decided to suspend the plan to float Luz Saúde, which operates a network of healthcare units, on the stock exchange due to the "instability" of the markets, considering that the conditions for "a correct valuation have not been met.
In a statement, the insurance company said that "despite the high level of interest from investors, Fidelidade and Luz Saúde have decided not to go ahead with the Luz Saúde stock placement operation," announced on 10 April.
"The decision was taken after careful assessment of market conditions, characterised by recent instability in the capital markets, aggravated by tensions in the Middle East. Market volatility has reached high levels, and the main global stock market indices have systematically depreciated in recent days. In this context, the market conditions that would allow the asset to be correctly valued have not been met," he explained.
In the same note, Fidelidade said that it "reaffirms its commitment to the sustainability and long-term growth of the Luz Saúde business and, as such, will continue to evaluate options that generate value for the asset, although there is no pressure to carry out the operation under conditions that are not considered the most appropriate".
According to the insurer, this approach "safeguards the interests of Fidelidade, Luz Saúde and its stakeholders".
On 10 April, Fidelidade announced its intention to apply for admission of Luz Saúde to Euronext Lisbon, planning to carry out a capital increase of €100 million.
In a statement that day, the group indicated that this intention, "following a decision by its majority shareholder Fidelidade", involved "requesting the admission to trading of the shares representing its share capital on the Euronext Lisbon stock market, as part of the realisation of a planned public offer for sale".
According to the group, this operation would create "better conditions for the company's continued expansion and growth in the healthcare sector".
In addition, "in parallel with the planned public offer for sale," Luz Saúde planned to "carry out a capital increase of approximately €100 million, through the issue of new shares aimed at institutional investors, both national and international", an operation to "support Luz Saúde's long-term growth, thus maintaining a more robust capital structure".
Luz Saúde operates 29 units, including hospitals, outpatient clinics and a senior residence, according to figures released by the group, which guarantees that the company "reaches 75% of the Portuguese population".
