Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Stock market rising on Thursday morning led by BCP, EDPR

Lisbon,April.18,2024(Lusa)-The Lisbon stock market was trading higher on Thursdau morning, with shares in BCP and EDP Renováveis rising 2.98% to €0.30 and €2.97 to €13.17, and those in Mota-Engil falling more than 2%. At around 09:15 in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portuguese Stock Market Index) was advancing 0.97 % to 6,295.11 points, with nine shares rising, six falling and one remaining unchanged (Corticeira Amorim at € 9.67). BCP and EDP Renováveis were followed by EDP and Sonae, which were rising 2.28 % to €3.68 and 1.49 % to €0.89.
Jerónimo Martins, NOS and Ibersol shares were up by 0.90% to €17.88, 0.56% to €3.61 and 0.29% to €7.00.
The other two shares that rose were REN and Grenvolt, up 0.23% to €2.20 and 0.12% to €8.31.
In the opposite direction, Mota-Engil shares were down 2.12% to €4.15, followed by ALtri and Semapa, which were down 0.80% to €4.95 and 0.66% to €14.96.
The other three shares that were falling were Galp, Navigator and CTT, which recorded losses of 0.59 % to €16.01, 0.41 % to €3.93 and 0.11 % to €4.45.
The main European stock markets were up today, pending the evolution of tensions in the Middle East in a session with a light macroeconomic agenda, which only includes the release in the US of some relevant data.
Today's macroeconomic agenda only includes the release of the Philadelphia Federal Reserve's (Fed) business outlook and initial jobless claims.
The stock markets started higher, after rising on Wednesday, despite the negative trend of the Wall Street market, which ended up closing in the red.
And this on a day when the Fed's Beige Book was published, in which the organisation predicts that inflation will remain stable without major changes in the future and will be far from the 2% target, which reinforces the view that it will take longer than expected to lower interest rates, as the institution's chairman, Jerome Powell, has already said.
In this context, sovereign debt yields opened today falling, after remaining stable on Thursday, with US 10-year bond yields at around 4.57% and German yields at around 2.43%.
Analysts at Renta4 quoted by Efe explain that the market is still waiting for geopolitical risks (awaiting Israel's response to the Iranian attack), and for the first quarter's corporate results, which today include the accounts of Netflix in the US and Bankinter in Spain.
A barrel of Brent oil for June delivery opened lower today, at US$87.22 on London's Intercontinental Exchange Futures (ICE), compared to US$87.29 on Wednesday, following Iran's attack on Israel last Saturday.
On the foreign exchange market, the Euro opened stronger on the Frankfurt exchange market, at US$ 1.0680, compared to US$ 1.0650 in the previous session.
