Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Lisbon stocks trading lower; EDP Renováveis, Mota-Engil lead losses




Lisbon, March 28, 2024 (Lusa) - The Lisbon stock market was trading lower on Thursday morning, with shares in EDP Renováveis and Mota-Engil down 0.97% to 12.76 euros and 0.81% to 4.91 euros.
At around 9.10 a.m. in Lisbon, the benchmark PSI (Portugal Stock Index) was down 0.11% to 6,269.88 points, with six shares rising, eight falling and two remaining unchanged (Ibersol at 6.66 euros and Greenvolt at 8.16 euros).
EDP Renováveis and Mota-Engil were followed by CTT and Altri, both down 0.48% to 4.14 euros and 5.17 euros.
Navigator and Sonae shares were also both down 0.34% to 4.05 euros and 0.88 euros.
The other two shares to fall were REN and Corticeira Amorim, down 0.23% to 2.19 euros and 0.20% to 9.85 euros.
By contrast, BCP, Semapa and Jerónimo Martins were the biggest gainers, up 0.62% to 0.31 euros, 0.55% to 14.70 euros and 0.44% to 18.44 euros.
The other three shares in the PSI that were up were Galp, EDP and NOS, which advanced 0.40% to 15.19 euros, 0.25% to 3.63 euros and 0.11% to 3.62 euros.
The main European stock markets were up on Thursday, pending major indicators such as the rate of unemployment benefit claims in Germany. In addition, Thursday will also see the publication of US consumer confidence from the University of Michigan.
Before the market opened, it was confirmed that the UK's gross domestic product shrank by 0.3% between October and December last year, according to the second estimate from the UK's Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Meanwhile, investors are also awaiting Friday's publication of the US private consumption deflator, one of the inflation measures most closely watched by the US Federal Reserve, and an appearance by Fed chairman Jerome Powell, also on Friday.
The Wall Street stock exchange closed in the green on Wednesday, breaking the trend of recent sessions.
A barrel of Brent oil for May delivery opened higher today, at 86.46 dollars on London's Intercontinental Exchange Futures (ICE), compared to 86.09 dollars on Wednesday.
Interest on the 10-year German government bond, considered the safest in Europe, rose to 2.313%, compared to 2.291% on Wednesday.
On the foreign exchange market, the euro opened weaker on the Frankfurt exchange market, at 1.0791 dollars, against 1.0819 dollars in the previous session.
