Lisbon, March 24,2023(Lusa)- The Lisbon Stock Exchange closed Friday's session down, with the PSI index losing 1.18% to 5,733.84 points, on a day when concerns about the banking system persisted in European markets.
Of the 16 listed companies that currently make up the PSI index, 12 closed down and four up.
BCP, the only bank included in the PSI, fell 2.92% to €0.19, but it was CTT that led the declines in the main Lisbon stock market index, falling 4.11% to €3.38.
Sonae (-2.76% to €0.97), Greenvolt (-2.75% to €6.37) and Ibersol (-2.37% to €6.60) were also the biggest losers.
EDP Renováveis dropped 1.79% to €19.74, EDP fell 1.73% to €4.72 and Galp lost 0.94% to €9.92.
Putting a brake on the PSI's greater devaluation were the rises in Altri (2.01% to €4.87), REN (1.37% to €2.59), Jerónimo Martins (1.21% to €20.06) and Semapa (0.15% to €13.40).
The main European stock exchanges ended the session with sharper falls. Milan fell 2.23%, Madrid 1.98%, Paris 1.74%, Frankfurt 1.66% and London 1.26%.
On the Frankfurt stock exchange, Deutsche Bank led the declines by losing 8.53%, followed by Commerzbank, which fell 5.45%.
In Paris, Société Générale shares retreated 6.13%, with the bank leading the declines in the CAC 40 index, while BNP Paribas lost 5.27%.
In London, Standard Chartered fell 6.42% and Barclays gave up 4.21%.
In Zurich, Credit Suisse was down 5.19% and UBS bank was down 3.55%. At the beginning of the week, the main European stock markets had recorded rises, following the acquisition of Credit Suisse by UBS, an operation that followed a few days of tension in the banking sector and justified with the need to restore confidence and ensure the stability of the financial system.
