Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Government to give €30/mth to poorer families to offset cost of living

Lisbon,March.24,2023(Lusa)-Portugal's government is to give a new handout of €30 a month to the poorest families to offset the rise in the cost of living, the minister of finance, Fernando Medina, announced on Friday.
According to the minister, payment of this support - which is to be made quarterly throughout this year - will be automatic. The government is thus expected to pay the amount for the first quarter shortly.
According to information released on Friday by the Ministry of Finance, this support will reach around one million families and is to be augmented by €15 per child - reaching 1.1 million minors.
In total, this support to the most vulnerable families is projected to cost €580 million.
The measure was announced on Friday at a joint news conference at the Ministry of Finance in Lisbon with Medina and with the cabinet office minister, Mariana Vieira da Silva, and the minister for labour, social security and solidarity, Ana Mendes Godinho, to present the government's new support package to mitigate the rising cost of living.
