Lusa - Business News - Angola: State collects €1.3B from privatisations over last three years

Luanda, Jan.19,2022(Lusa)– Angola collected 850 billion kwanzas (1.3 billion euros) over the three years of implementation of the government's Privatisation Programme (ProPriv) and sold 64 assets between 2020 and 2021.
The figures were given on Wednesday by the Secretary of State for Finance and the Treasury, Ottoniel dos Santos, noting that of the overall amount contracted only 469 billion kwanzas (761 million euros) had been received and were split into three categories.
"One, which represents 26 billion kwanzas (42 million euros) that were paid to the State, the second, 47 billion kwanzas (76 million euros) were paid to Sonangol and the third, of 396 billion kwanzas (643 million euros), represents the amount involved in the sale of the Puma Energy company and represents the exchange of shares, is the value that those shares have and that are currently in the care of the Sonangol group," the minister explained.
According to Dos Santos, the Angolan state has yet to receive a total of 380.5 billion kwanzas (618 million euros), of which 107 billion kwanzas (173 million euros) refer to contracts signed with several contractors and 273 billion kwanzas (443 million euros) refer to the option to buy one of the units sold in the textile sector.
"We also have to mention that, for the end of 2021, the privatisation of a total of 50 assets was planned, of which 34 were concluded, thus making a degree of execution in 2021 above 60 percent," he indicated.
Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting of the ProPriv Interministerial Commission, the minister also said that at least 15 companies and/or assets, namely eleven industrial units in the Special Economic Zone, state insurer ENSA and BAI bank would be privatised in the first quarter of 2022.
"All the leftover assets that are part of the remainder of the 67 unsold assets will be disposed of by the end of the first half of 2022," he stressed.
Asked about the state of play of the privatisation of Angolan airline TAAG and oil company Sonangol, he said that their process did not fit in with the actions set for the first half of this year.
These are companies "that are preparing all the internal processes and restructuring programmes so that when they are ready, they can be privatised, in accordance with the method or procedure that is defined," he noted.
The ProPriv schedule for 2022 was the focus of today's meeting, and the minister noted that since the start of the programme a total of 140 planned assets had already been privatised.
The Bank for Trade and Industry (BCI), the Cuca and Eka breweries, Textang, Africa Textil and some Songangol assets are on the list of "reference assets" that have already been privatised.
