Lusa - Business News - Portugal: Flights to/from Brazil, UK etc. now permitted for essential travel

Lisbon, April.16,2021(Lusa)– Flights to or from Brazil and the United Kingdom will be allowed from now on for essential travel, maintaining the restrictive measures of air traffic due to the pandemic, announced the Interior Ministry (MAI) on Friday.
In a statement, the Ministry also said that the control of people on land and river borders between Portugal and Spain will extend for another 15 days, maintaining the schedules and rules established in all Authorized Points of Passage (PPA).
The Ministry under Eduardo Cabrita said that passengers on flights originating from South Africa, Brazil or countries with an incidence rate equal to or higher than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants must, after entering mainland Portugal, observe a quarantine period of 14 days, at home or in a place indicated by the health authorities.
According to the Ministry this list includes Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Croatia, Estonia, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovenia and Sweden.
The Ministry also stresses that "only essential journeys from these countries are allowed".
"Similarly, passengers coming from countries with an incidence rate equal to or higher than 150 cases per 100,000 inhabitants may also only make essential journeys".
The list of these countries includes Germany, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Slovakia, Spain, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Norway, Romania and Switzerland.
Essential journeys are considered to be "those intended to allow the transit or entry into Portugal of citizens travelling for professional, study, family reunion, health or humanitarian reasons".
In the statement, the MAI also indicates that all citizens arriving in Portugal by air (except children who have not completed 24 months of age) must provide proof of laboratory testing (RT-PCR) for screening for infection by SARSCoV-2, with negative results, performed within 72 hours prior to boarding.
Passengers arriving in Portugal without proof of testing for SARSCoV-2 infection must perform the test inside the airport and must await the result at the airport itself.
At land borders, traffic between Portugal and Spain remains limited, and only the 18 points authorised for international transport of goods, cross-border and seasonal workers duly documented, emergency and rescue vehicles and emergency service are allowed.
At land borders with Spain, citizens coming from Brazil, South Africa or countries with an incidence rate equal to or greater than 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants must undergo a quarantine period of 14 days, at home or in a place indicated by the health authorities.
