ATA - BoA: Exchange rate is stabilized while fluctuations are dictated by seasonal factors

TIRANA, November 7 /ATA/- The exchange rate performance remained relatively stable during 2019.
The Bank of Albania reported that the information obtained from analysis of the domestic foreign exchange market during the current year has been generally in accordance with the expectations of the Central Bank.

According to the BoA, the exchange rate of the Albanian Lek with the Euro is closer to equilibrium. While the fluctuations appear to be dictated by seasonal factors, such as the seasonal factors that triggered the Euro’s decline during the summer season when tourist inflows and the emigrants influenced the increase in supply and depreciation of the Euro.

A strong Euro penalizes creditors who have loans in this currency, as they will pay more in monthly installments. While imports come at a higher cost, reflecting higher market prices.

The Bank of Albania observed that the risk in the financial markets is low while the liquidity situation is satisfactory. It also noted that interest rates on loans, deposits and government securities are close to minimum levels, boosting credit growth and encouraging growth in consumption and investment. /e.xh/ /a.g/p.s./
