Lusa - Business News - Cabo Verde: Purchase of helicopters for emergencies needed - prime minister

Praia, Nov.7,2019 (Lusa)–Cabo Verde’s prime minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, said that the country needs to buy helicopters to ensure support for medical emergencies and civil protection, having visited an Italian supplier in Turin on Wednesday.
Correia e Silva explained that the purchase of helicopters is a necessity for the country and that the government is analysing various alternatives.
We need time to examine the best alternatives, in pilot training, maintenance and operating costs. We are going to analyse and make the best options, explained Ulisses Correia e Silva, after visiting the Italian Air Green in Turin.
It is important to understand how they work and to what extent they can represent a solution for Cabo Verde.
The Cape Verdean government stressed that Air Green is one of the most important helicopter companies in Italy and provides different services, such as helicopter rescue, transport of passengers and goods, maintenance and training for pilots and technicians.
Cabo Verde needs this type of service, particularly for medical emergencies, since we cannot have reference hospitals on all the islands. It has to be easy to get around any Cape Verdean island in an emergency.
Ulisses Correia e Silva was on a working visit to Italy from 2 and 6 November, at the invitation of the Missionary Association of Solidarity and Development and the Solidarity and Development Association led by Father Ottávio Fasano, during which he met with Italian individuals and with the Cape Verdean community in that country.
