MAP - Morocco, Key Player in Africa's Economic Integration (AfDB President)

Kigali-July 11,2019-(MAP)-Morocco has become a key player in Africa's economic integration, said, Wednesday in Kigali, President of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina.

"Morocco has an admirable determination to invest in the African continent and to step up Africa's economic integration," Adesina told MAP on the sidelines of the 4th annual General Shareholders Meeting of Africa50, a pan-African infrastructure investment firm.
Adesina, who is also the Chairman of Africa50 Board of Directors, said that the Kingdom has an important experience to share with African countries, particularly in the area of renewable energies, which is a lever for inclusive growth and in which Morocco stands out as "undisputed leader on the continent".
He also commended the actions undertaken by HM King Mohammed VI to integrate Moroccan economy into Africa and to promote investments dedicated to Africa.
"By installing one of the largest solar power plants in the world and promoting wind and solar projects, Morocco is doing something big," he pointed out.
Discussions are underway between the AfDB and Morocco to benefit from its technical support for its "Desert to Power" program which aims to provide 250 million people in the Sahel region with solar energy, he said.
Adesina, who welcomed the "strategic" partnership between Morocco and the AfDB, said that there are several projects in sight between the two partners, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, governance and financial market integration.
