Lusa - Business News - Mozambique: GDP expands 2.5% in first quarter
Maputo, Jun. 11 2019 (Lusa) - Mozambique’s economy grew 2.5% in the first quarter of the year its National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Tuesday. Nevertheless, this growth rate is lower than in 2018, the INE said, when GDP was growing at around 3.7%. This year, “the economic performance in the first quarter of the year was due to the tertiary sector, which grew 2.7%, particularly the property rental and services area which grew 5.0%". The electricity, gas and water provision area was the worst area as it shrank by 7.1%. In the period in question, farming, fishing, hunting, livestock and forestry was responsible for a large party of the economy, with 23.1% of GDP, followed by trade and repair services with 10.6%. Mozambique’s economy grew 3.3% in 2018. LFO/ADB // ADB. Lusa Agency : LUSA Date : 2019-06-12 09:33:58
