Atalanta have overtaken AS Roma in the race to sign Italy forward Giacomo Raspadori from Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window, sources said on Tuesday.
    The Bergamo side are said to be close to sealing a deal for the 25-year-old, who has struggled to settle at Atletico after joining the Spanish side in the summer from Serie A champions Napoli.
    Roma had looked to be set to buy him, having reportedly reached a broad agreement on a price with Atletico.
    If the move to Atalanta goes through, Raspadori will be reunited with fellow Italy striker Gianluca Scamacca, after they formed a successful attacking partnership when they were together at Sassuolo in the 2021-22 season.
    Raspadori has 45 Italy caps and has scored 11 goals for the national team.
