HINA - Međimurje County takes over presidency of Alps-Adriatic Alliance

ZAGREB, 10 Nov (Hina) - For the first time in its history, Međimurje County chairs a European association – the Alps-Adriatic Alliance. Međimurje County Prefect Matija Posavec on Monday officially took over the presidency of the Alliance in Graz.

The Alps-Adriatic Alliance brings together regions, cities and municipalities from Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Italy, Serbia and Hungary, and the ceremonial flag and protocol of the Alliance were handed over to Posavec by Manuela Kohm, Deputy Governor of the Federal State of Styria, which held the presidency until now.

"Taking over the presidency of the Alps-Adriatic Alliance is not a formality for us, it is an opportunity to show how dedication, cooperation and vision can bring real results and open new possibilities for all member regions," said Posavec.

He added that in the coming period, efforts will be made to include regions from countries in the EU accession process, as many of them have shown interest in membership.

"Just as everyone learns from those who have more experience in a certain field, and as Croatia learned from Austria on its European path, today we have a duty to pass on our knowledge and experience to those who are taking that same path," Posavec added.

He also announced invitations to other Italian and Hungarian regions, as well as the re-inclusion of the German Federal State of Bavaria.

In the coming period, attention will be devoted to projects and activities that connect the economy, culture, education, tourism and sustainable development, it was said.
