HINA - Trakošćan turned into Castle of Lights, project opened to visitors until 11 Jan

ZAGREB, 8 Nov (Hina) - A unique project, "Castle of Lights", opened on Friday at Trakošćan Castle, northern Croatia, and it is the first exhibition of its kind in Croatia turning the castle and its grounds into a fairy-tale setting filled with light, colour, and music.

The exhibition runs through  11 January 2026, always from 5pm to 9 pm.

The project was created in collaboration with the renowned Czech company DECOLED, known for over a thousand light installations across Europe -- from Budapest to Paris -- and now for Trakošćan, which has been included for the first time in the European network of light art destinations.

Visitors can stroll among light sculptures inspired by the castle’s rich history and permanent collection, ranging from hunting and knighthood to music and aristocratic portraits.

The official opening was enhanced by a performance from Prague violinist Alexander Shonert, supported by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Croatia, further highlighting the cultural connections and international collaboration behind the project.

"Discover Trakošćan Castle of Lights, the first illuminated castle in Croatia. This romantic 13th-century fortress, once the home of the noble Drašković family, belongs among the country’s most beautiful landmarks. By night it transforms into a glowing fairy tale that connects history, legends and magical light," reads the information on the castle's website.
