Genoa have decided to appoint former AS Roma boss Daniele De Rossi as their new coach after Patrick Vieira's exit from the relegation-threatened Serie A side at the weekend, sources said on Wednesday.
The former Italy midfielder will be in Genoa later on Wednesday to sign a contract and will take charge of the team on Thursday, the sources said.
De Rossi has reportedly agreed to take over until the end of season with a contract that would be automatically renewed if Genoa avoid relegation to Serie B.
Wednesday's training session will be overseen by the coaching team of Mimmo Criscito and Roberto Murgita, who were appointed on an interim basis after Vieira's departure.
Genoa won 2-1 at Sassuolo on Monday under Criscito and Murgita to move off the bottom of the Serie A table.
They are now third-from-bottom with six points from 10 games.
Former Genoa captain Criscito, who was in charge of the club's under-17s, had to be flanked by Murgita, a long-standing member of its coaching staff, because he does not yet have a licence to be in charge of a top-flight team.
