The final straight to the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics has started with the Games hitting the 100-days-to-go mark on Wednesday.
    The Games will kick off on February 6 with the opening ceremony at Milan's iconic San Siro Stadium.
    The closing ceremony will be held at the Verona Arena on 22 February.
    Milan will host the ice-sport events, while the alpine skiing races will be at Bormio and Cortina, Trentino will hold the biathlon events in Anterselva and the Nordic skiing and ski jumping in Val di Fiemme, while the Lombard town of Livigno near the Swiss border has the snowboarding and freestyle skiing.
    Andrea Varnier, the CEO of the Milano Cortina 2026 Foundation, said organizers are on track to be ready to host the Games.
    "There are always problems with getting the projects ready in time, some will available a little too close to the finish line, but we are respecting the deadlines," Varnier told an event in Milan organized by daily newspaper Il Giornale.
    Most of the events will be held at existing facilities.
    Only two structures are being build from scratch - the bobsleigh run at Cortina for the sliding events and the Santa Giulia arena in Milan, where the ice hockey matches will be held.
