ANSA - Italy aiming for 19 medals at Milano Cortina 2026

CONI President Luciano Buonfiglio sets minimum target for Games

With 100 days to go, Italian Olympic Committee President Luciano Buonfiglio on Wednesday set Italy a minimum target of 19 medals at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
During a press conference at Milan's Triennale museum to mark the 100-days-to-go mark, Buonfiglio spoke of the excitement and "honour of representing Italian sport".
CONI will give athletes the same prize money as at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics - 180,000 euros for gold, 90,000 for silver and 60,000 for bronze.
It said the government has promised the make the prize money tax free.
Italy's medal hopes have been hit by some of its best winter sports athletes suffering injuries.
Alpine skier Marta Bassino looks set to miss the Games after fracturing her tibia in training this month.
Federica Brignone, the overall Alpine skiing World Cup-winner in 2020 and 2025, is in a race against time to come back after a double leg fracture in April.
