ZAGREB, 30 Sept (Hina) - UNICEF Croatia organised the signing of the Code for the Protection and Promotion of Children's Rights in the Digital Environment, committing the telecommunications industry in Croatia to further strengthen its activities in the interest of children and their rights in the digital space.
Hrvatski Telekom, A1 Hrvatska, and Telemach Hrvatska signed the Code for the Protection and Promotion of Children's Rights in the Digital Environment, pledging to further improve their practices in support of children and children's rights in the digital space.
The signing took place during the visit of UNICEF Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, Regina De Dominicis. The Code, developed on the basis of international standards, covers child protection online, data security, prevention of exposure to inappropriate content, and cooperation with institutions and parents.
The digital environment offers children many opportunities for learning, development, and connection, but it also brings new risks. Through the joint efforts of the telecommunications industry and UNICEF, we are setting standards of responsible business conduct and creating a safer digital space for every child, said Luisa Brumana, head of the UNICEF office for Croatia.
She added that the initiative demonstrates how the private sector can be a strong ally in protecting children and promoting their rights, setting an example for other industries to follow.
Nataša Rapaić, CEO of Hrvatski Telekom, emphasised that despite business competition, telecoms remain united in protecting children, while Dejan Turk, CEO of A1 Hrvatska, highlighted the importance of education and digital safety projects. Adrian Ježina, CEO of Telemach Hrvatska, underlined that the signing of the Code confirms long-standing cooperation with UNICEF and places children at the centre of the digital future.
