Alberto Nagel announced during a board meeting on Thursday that he was quitting of CEO of Mediobanca after failing to stop Monte dei Paschi di Siena's takeover of the Italian merchant bank.
According to internal dealing reports on Thursday, Nagel has sold an one-million share package, cashing in more than 21 million euros, taking the total he has pocketed over the last few days to around 44 million.
The merchant bank's other executives have also been selling their stock.
