The 5th European Conference on Data Journalism & Computational Journalism will be held in Athens and the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, from September 8 to September 10.
The conference will open on Monday, with workshops to be held at the ESIEA building (Akadimias 20), bringing together media professionals, researchers, data journalists and academics to share their experiences and explore how data, artificial intelligence and computational methods are transforming the news production process, serving the public good.
The next two days (9 and 10 September) will take place at the main building of the University of Athens (Panepistimiou 30), with the program including academic presentations, discussions and speeches by experts in the field of journalism.
The conference will feature workshops and talks by industry leaders. Speakers and panelists will include: Cheryl Phillips, professor at Stanford University, USA; Nick Diakopoulos, professor at Northwestern University, USA; Laura Ellis, head of R&D at the BBC; Marc Lavallee, director of Strategy & Product for Journalism Technology at the Knight Foundation and former director and head of R&D at the New York Times; and Dhrumil Mehta, professor of Data Journalism at Columbia University’s School of Journalism and Harvard Kennedy School.
As the organizers pointed out, the conference will be a meeting place for practitioners and academics to jointly explore new kinds of practices that can serve the public interest.
