HINA - 105 participants attend Summer School of Croatian Folklore in Zadar

ZADAR, 15 Aug (Hina) - The Summer School of Croatian Folklore, which brought together 105 participants in Zadar from countries such as Germany, Australia, and Uruguay, concluded on Wednesday with a concert where participants showcased what they had learned, the Croatian Heritage Foundation (HMI) reported.

The ten-day school was organised to help Croatian emigrants and their descendants around the world preserve Croatia’s cultural heritage.

"Our dance group’s director Melisa Maračić and tamburitza ensemble member Sabrina Švoger traveled to Croatia," reported the Croatian Home of Montevideo, an association that brings together Croats and their descendants in Uruguay.

Maračić and Švoger received scholarships from the Croatian Heritage Foundation, an organisation focused on Croatian communities abroad.

"We are overjoyed to be part of this learning process and to continue reconnecting with our roots," said the participants from Uruguay through the Facebook page of the Croatian Home in that South American country.

In Zadar, Maračić and Švoger met fellow participants from Croatia, Germany, Austria, Serbia, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Australia, Canada, Argentina, Chile, and Brazil.

Over the course of ten days, they learned traditional Croatian dances, songs, and instruments, and presented their skills in a final performance on the terrace of the hostel in Zadar where they had been staying, the school reported via Instagram.
