ZAGREB, 11 Aug (Hina) - The government has scheduled supplementary local elections for 5 October in 75 municipalities, towns and counties where national minorities or Croats where they are in the minority, were not adequately represented in May’s regular elections.

A total of 89 councillors will be elected: 51 from the Serb minority, 19 Roma, seven Croats (in areas where they are a minority), three Italians. two each from the Hungarian, Slovak and Ruthenian minorities, and one each from the Ukrainian, Bosniak and Albanian minorities

Voting will take place in eight county assemblies, 16 city councils and 51 municipal councils.

Only members of the relevant national minority, or Croats where they are a minority, with permanent residence in the area can vote or stand as candidates.

The last supplementary elections, held four years ago, took place in 82 units for 99 seats.
