Italy will see another bout of extreme heat until mid-August with Lazio and Tuscany the hardest hit regions, weatherman Antonio Sanò said Monday.
The Bel Paese will endure another week of scorching heat, and muggy conditions and temperatures above 40 degrees will grip the entire country at least until the August bank holiday weekend, said Sanò, founder of the website iLMeteo.it.
Monday, August 11, the expert explains, will be scorching hot throughout Italy; the hardest-hit regions will be Lazio and Tuscany, where temperatures will reach over 40°C in the inland plains.
Intense heat will also be expected in Liguria, with highs of 38-39°C in the La Spezia area, "rather unusual for this area." Things are no better in the Po Valley, where the mercury will "shoot up, reaching 37-39°C across the board." Tropical nights are also expected in many other areas.
"On the Ligurian coast," Sanò states, "temperatures may not drop below 28-30°C even in the middle of the night, seriously compromising sleep." Throughout the week leading up to Ferragosto, and on the day itself, the African anticyclone will continue to dominate Italy.
"This will translate into an intense heat wave with mostly clear skies across much of the country.
The only exceptions to this scorching scenario will be the mountainous areas, where a few heat storms could bring some relief, especially between Tuesday the 12th and Wednesday the 13th." According to iLMeteo.it, the anticyclone will begin to lose strength only in the last ten days of the month, although "a significant cooldown is not yet entirely certain." IN DETAIL Monday the 11th.
