TIRANA, August 1 /ATA/ – The Albanian government has announced an emergency support package for farmers affected by recent wildfires, including feed aid for livestock and a plan to rehabilitate scorched agricultural land.
Speaking at a joint press conference on Thursday alongside Defense Minister Pirro Vengu, Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha, and Civil Protection Director Haki Çako, Agriculture Minister Anila Denaj said fires had caused significant damage in southern Albania, particularly in the Delvinë region.
“The fires have affected livestock, beekeeping and pastures,” Denaj said. “So far, 230 beehives and 8 livestock shelters have been damaged. We are also assessing feed shortages in all affected areas.”
She said the government had delivered 20 tons of animal food to Delvinë and held an additional 100 tons in reserve for other regions as needed. Denaj urged local institutions to continue reporting specific needs to coordinate further deliveries.
The government is also preparing a recovery package to restore 29,000 hectares of damaged cropland, Denaj added.
“We are designing a support plan to revitalize these cultivated areas,” she said.
