APS - 24th SITEV kicks off with participation of 200 exhibitors

ALGIERS- The 24th International Tourism and Travel Fair kicked off on Saturday, in Algiers, with the participation of 200 exhibitors, including representatives of 27 countries, and 38 start-ups.

In her speech at the opening of this fair, held under the slogan "Travel to the heart of Algeria and enjoy authentic tourism and a millennial civilization," the Minister of Tourism and Craft Industry, Meddahi, said that this event represents "a genuine opportunity to strengthen partnerships, promote the exchange of expertise, and encourage investment in a sector that has now become a true lever for economic development."

Se further emphasizing that it features "a qualitative participation with more than 200 exhibitors, including 27 friendly and brotherly countries, and 38 start-ups."

This event is supported by national organizations and economic partners, as well as operators from the tourism and hospitality sectors and Algerian artisans, she said.

In this regard, the minister said that Algeria is working, in accordance with the overall vision of President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to diversify its economy and build sustainable development models, in which tourism holds a prominent place.

She mentioned the launch of the tourism action plan (2024-2030) aimed at "enhancing all the tourist assets of our country, developing tourism, and promoting domestic tourism."

Meddahi further presented the approach adopted by her ministry to achieve a qualitative leap in the field of national tourism, notably by encouraging tourism investment, securing land tenure, and simplifying procedures.

She reported 144 hotel projects currently underway, with a capacity of more than 16,000 beds, in addition to "making tourist land plots available through the Algerian Investment Promotion Agency (AAPI) and attracting investors to carry out their projects, which will contribute to increasing accommodation capacity and diversifying hotel offerings, thereby creating a competitive climate in terms of prices and improving service quality."

As part of the modernization of the public hotel sector, the minister announced that 43 public tourist hotels have been rehabilitated by the Hotel, Tourism, and Thermalism Group (HTT), which will increase the national accommodation capacity to 160,000 beds by the end of 2025 and to 250,000 beds by 2030.

The ministry is also working to ensure the qualification of human resources through strengthening specialized training and expanding the network of institutes and higher education schools, in coordination with the Higher Education and Vocational Training sectors.
