In May 2025, the total number of unemployed individuals registered with the Public Employment Service (DYPA) reached 741,006, according to figures released on Friday. This reflects a decrease of 53,746 people (-6.8%) compared to the same month in the previous year (May 2024), and a decrease of 70,318 people (-8.7%) compared to the previous month, April 2025.
Additionally, the number of benefit recipients in May 2025 amounted to 126,733 people - an increase of 45,278 individuals (55.6%) compared to May 2024, and a decrease of 29,323 individuals (18.8%) compared to the previous month, April 2025.
According to the registered unemployment statistics from DYPA, of the total 741,006 individuals: 429,323 people (57.9%) have been in the DYPA registry for 12 months or longer and 311,683 people (42.1%) have been in the registry for less than 12 months.
The number of men was 247,266 (33.4%) and the number of women was 493,740 (66.6%).
The age group 30-44 years old recorded the highest number of registered unemployed individuals among all age categories, totaling 223,920 persons (30.2%).
The regions of the country with the highest number of registered unemployed individuals are: Attica with 253,657 people (34.2%) and the region of Central Macedonia with 151,142 people (20.4%).
