NNA - IDM, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, launched the “Internet for All” initiative that aims to provide low-cost internet services for persons with disabilities.
On this occasion, a ceremony was held at the Ministry of Social Affairs in Beirut on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, under the patronage and in the presence of H.E. Mrs. Haneen El Sayed, Minister of Social Affairs, Mr. Maroun Chammas, IDM Chairman, and Mrs. Rana Zakhour, General Manager of IDM, along with senior officials from the Ministry and team members and representatives from IDM. The event was also attended by civil society organizations, social figures, and a crowd of journalists and media representatives in Lebanon.
H.E. Mrs. Haneen El Sayed, Minister of Social Affairs, delivered a speech in which she emphasized the Ministry’s renewed rights-based vision for persons with disabilities. The Ministry has shifted its focus from traditional welfare approaches toward empowering individuals and ensuring their full participation and autonomy. Key actions include re-electing the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, expanding cash support programs benefiting over 20,000 individuals, enhancing access to healthcare services, and ensuring political participation. The Minister stressed the critical role of digital inclusion, describing it as a fundamental requirement for social justice and equal opportunity. She concluded her remarks by thanking IDM for this important initiative and reaffirming the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to building a more just, fair, and inclusive Lebanon for all.
Mr. Maroun Chammas, IDM Chairman, delivered a speech in which he reaffirmed the company’s strong and ongoing commitment to delivering fast, legal, and competitively priced internet access to all citizens. He noted that “since IDM’s early beginnings in the 1990s, ensuring universal access to the internet has been central to its mission and vision.”
Chammas stated that “persons with disabilities play an active role in building the country, regardless of the challenges they face. Their full access to the internet is a national duty, especially in this era of artificial intelligence and technology that helps individuals overcome obstacles.” He added that “no government can provide effective services without fast and accessible internet for all.”
He further emphasized that high-speed fiber-optic internet is not just for persons with disabilities but for every Lebanese citizen. He concluded by stressing that “expanding this service cannot happen without the full implementation of the fiber-optic network, especially in areas that still lack this essential infrastructure.” Chammas reaffirmed IDM’s commitment to this initiative as a step toward a more inclusive and equitable society.
