Cristian Chivu was at Inter's offices in Milan on Friday to settle the final details of his appointment as the club's new head coach, sources said.
He is set to sign a two-year contract and replace Simone Inzaghi, who quit to take over Saudi club Al Hilal following last weekend's 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final.
Chivu, a 44-year-old former defender, was part of Inter's Champions League-Serie A-Italian Cup treble-winning team in the 2009-10 campaign.
He also won two other Serie A titles and another Italian Cup during his 2007-2014 stint with the club as a player, as well as the 2010 Club World Cup.
He started his career as a coach with Inter's academy in 2018 before taking charge of Parma in February his first job as a senior head coach and leading them to Serie A safety.
