ALGIERS — Algerian author Yasmina Khadra announced on Saturday that he received the Prize of the World Council of the Algerian Diaspora (CMDA) for his literary and creative contributions to Algeria’s cultural scene.
In a social media post, the Algerian novelist said that being honored by representatives of the Algerian community represents both “important support” for his creative work and a “great responsibility” he is committed to fulfilling.
The internationally acclaimed author noted that while he has won numerous awards throughout his literary career, “being recognized in my own country has special significance. I am proud to see our community abroad is engaged, and we need a strong framework to unite Algerians and help promote our country’s image.”
The CMDA brings together Algerian talent worldwide, working to unite efforts in promoting talent, supporting artists and celebrating and preserving Algeria’s cultural heritage.
