ANSA - Timothée Chalamet to get special David di Donatello gong

Dune, Complete Unknown star joins Ornella Muti at Italy Oscars

American actor Timothée Chalamet will receive a special David di Donatello award during the 70th edition of the Italian Oscars on Wednesday, May 7th, organisers said Friday.
The 29-year-old Call Me by Your Name, Dune, Wonka and A Complete Unknown star joins veteran Italian diva Ornella Muti in getting a David Speciale this year.
"Timothée Chalamet's European roots and American education make him one of the most unpredictable and talented protagonists of international cinema today, capable of proposing himself as an auteur interpreter and a star capable of generating trends and styles at the same time," said Piera Detassis, President and Artistic Director of the Accademia del Cinema Italiano.
"The Academy is happy to award him the David Speciale, which is intended to be recognition of the great actor of quality and innovative films, and, at the same time, of the global protagonist.
"It is important for us to remember how his affirmation on the world stage occurred precisely thanks to a wonderful Italian film, Call Me by Your Name, by one of our most internationally appreciated directors, Luca Guadagnino.

"Indispensable and absolutely contemporary intersections of cultures and visions, a union that the David di Donatello is happy to celebrate." Among the other awards already announced for the 70th edition of the David di Donatello Awards, the David for Lifetime Achievement will go to veteran cult noir director Pupi Avati, the David dello Spettatore to Diamanti by Ferzan Özpetek and the David for Best International Film to Anora by Sean Baker.
