ANSA - Meloni meets King Charles at Rome's Villa Pamphili

Horseback guard of honour for the British monarch

Premier Giorgia Meloni received King Charles III at Rome's Villa Doria Pamphili on Wednesday as the British monarch's four-day State visit of Italy continued.
Italy's Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and his British counterpart David Lammy were also present.
Charles was greeted with a horseback guard of honour in another pomp-rich ceremony after he and Queen Camilla were welcomed with full military honours and a joint flypast by Italy's "Frecce Tricolori" air force aerobatic team and Britain's "Red Arrows" when they met President Sergio Mattarella at the Quirinal Palace in Rome on Tuesday.
Charles and Camilla, who also visited the Colosseum and laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Solidier at the Victor Emmanuel (Altar of the Homeland) Monument on Tuesday, are celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary on Wednesday.
Later in the day Charles will become the first British monarch to address a joint session of Italy's Parliament.
The royals will not see Pope Francis as part of their official visit, as originally planned, as the 88-year-old pontiff is convalescing after a long spell in hospital with pneumonia.
On Thursday the British royals will be in Ravenna to pay homage to Dante's Tomb and attend a reception marking the 80th anniversary of the province's liberation from Nazi occupation by Allied Forces.
