APS - Algeria achieves honourable results in International Mathematical Olympiad

ALGIERS- Algeria has achieved honourable results at the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad in the United Kingdom, through Derrache Chamseddine Abdelali, who clinched the gold medal, the ministry of National Education said on Saturday in a press release.

“Algeria has achieved a very honourable result at the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad in Bath city (Great Britain) from 11 to 22 July 2024, which has witnessed the participation of 108 countries,” the ministry said.

Algeria has won, “for the first time since it started taking part in this prestigious international competition, a gold medal clinched by the student Derrache Chamseddine Abdelali, making Algeria the only Arab and African country ever to win a medal in this competition. The other team members received honorary certificates,” the ministry's statement stressed.

The president of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, on Saturday congratulated Derrache Chemseddine Abdelali on winning Algeria's first ever gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and on having passed the Baccalaureate exam (2024) with an "Excellent" grade.

"Derrache Chemseddine Abdelali... Another bud has just blossomed on the path of Algeria's rising youth... He passed his Baccalaureate exam with an "Excellent" grade this year and won Algeria's first ever gold medal at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) that took place in Great Britain," the president of the Republic said on his official social media account.
