APS - Tennis/International Championships: Algeria to host several events in 2023

APS-ALGIERS-Algeria will host several international tennis tournaments in the second part of 2023’s sporting season, including the Africa U16 Championship (boys and girls), scheduled from 25 to 29 April at the tennis club of Bachdjarah, in Algiers, the head of the Algerian Tennis Federation (FAT) Nabil Cheriak told APS. “We are pleased to announce the organization of the Africa U16 Championship in Algiers. We have got the green light after meeting the specifications of the continental body,” Cheriak told APS. This championship will be followed by the 14th edition of the ITF International Junior Tournament which will take place from 29 April to 6 May in Mansourah Tennis Club, in Tlemcen. The last edition dates back to 2019, before a cessation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Afterwards, Algeria’s eastern city Annaba will host two ITF international junior tournaments. The first tournament will be organized by Annaba’s Tennis League from 1 to 8 July while the second one will be organized by RC Bonna from 8 to 15 July. “Organizing such events will enable confirming that our country is still present in international events. We organized this kind of tournament to allow our young players to improve their global ranking,” said Cheriak. Two other ITF international tournaments are on the agenda of the international body and will be held in Mostaganem. Organized at Salamandre tennis club by the League of Mostaganem under the aegis of FAT, the first tournament is from 30 September to 7 October while the second is scheduled from 7 to 14 October. “The 2023 international agenda is definitive but will be extended to include other provinces in 2024, including Skikda,, Bejaia and Biskra,” according to FAT’s chairman.
