APS - NAPEC 2026: TSGP project mirrors Algeria’s bid to become regional energy hub, says Arkab

ORAN- Minister of State, Minister of Hydrocarbons Mohamed Arkab affirmed on Monday in Oran that the Trans-Saharan Gas Pipeline (TSGP) project aligns with Algeria's vision of strengthening its position as a regional energy hub connecting African energy resources to Mediterranean and European markets.

Speaking at the opening of the 14th edition of the North Africa Energy and Hydrogen Exhibition and Conference (NAPEC 2026), Arkab stated that the project extends beyond gas transportation. It encompasses a broader pan-African vision aimed at optimizing the continent's resources, deepening regional integration, and developing its energy infrastructure.

He added that the pipeline will expand energy access and deliver socioeconomic benefits to transit countries, reinforcing its developmental impact alongside its strategic significance in the energy sector.

In this regard, Arkab underscored that the project's technical and economic studies have made significant progress.

He highlighted the launch of construction on the Algerian section in the Oulef area of Adrar province last June, following the fifth ministerial meeting dedicated to the project.

He affirmed that Algeria's approach to this energy corridor is grounded in pragmatic, coordinated, and responsible execution, taking into account all technical, commercial, security, and financial requirements associated with its implementation.
