Premier Giorgia Meloni has applied to put a copyright on her voice as part of an effort to combat it being used for AI-generated cloned content, registering it with EUIPO, the European Union Intellectual Property Office.
The premier recorded herself saying "Io sono Giorgia Meloni" ("I am Giorgia Meloni' ) twice for the application, which can be viewed on EUIPO's website.
At the moment the application is classed as "under examination".
Italian pop star Giusy Ferreri also applied to have her voice copyrighted some months ago.
