ANSA - Eni announces 20% fuel-price cut for farmers, fishers

Move follows cap on prices at gas stations, new offer reducing utility bills

Eni said that its customers at its Enilive stations will be able to purchase diesel and petrol for agricultural and fishing boat use at a 20% discount as of Friday.
It said the discount will be available until October 31 and may be extended until the end of the year, depending on market trends and product availability.
It is the latest of a series of initiatives the State-controlled company has taken, encouraged by Premier Giorgia Meloni's government, to help households and businesses cope with soaring energy prices amid the Iran war.
On Monday Eni brought in a cap at its gas stations, limiting prices at €2.19 per litre for diesel and €1.99 for unleaded petrol for 30 days.
Kuwait's Q8, Azerbaijan's SOCAR with its IP chain, and Libyan-owned Dutch-based energy company Tamoil have since followed Eni's lead at their gas stations here.
Eni announced Tuesday that it will offer a 30% discount on electricity and gas bills starting in October for customers who sign up by the 24th of the month via its Plenitude subsidiary.
"I would like to thank Eni for fully grasping the need to support our primary production sector," said Agriculture Minister Francesco Lollobrigida.
"The price reduction allows agricultural and fishing businesses to obtain a discount of approximately 20% on current rates.
"We hope that other oil companies operating in the country will emulate the exemplary approach taken by Eni, as has already occurred in recent days."
